Ever since I watched Grease for the first time, I’ve loved circle skirts. There’s something elegant about the natural pleating and the way it sways when you walk. Love them so much that I decided to make my own! Here’s where I let you in on a little secret: I studied fashion at George Brown, so I know a thing or two about sewing.
I started off with some research and used a couple tutorials by Emily Hallman Designs and Cotton and Curls. Once I had a feel for how to make the skirt, I headed downtown to pick out the perfect fabric. With spring in mind, I opted for a medium-weight cobalt polyester, rolled-up my sleeves and got to work on my very first handmade skirt.
After hours of sewing and what felt like forever, I finished and next came the best part – time to wear it! Paired with a black lace top and a fur collar, I rocked my very first handmade circle skirt.
